What does the D1d sign mean?

The D1 sign requires following the direction of the arrow; on the D1d it points right. Placed on an obstacle, it means: pass on that side (Highway Code, art. 69). On a worksite it is mounted on the barrier, often with flashing lights, so traffic goes around the works zone on the right side.

Mandatory signs: what you need to know

Mandatory signs are round and blue. They impose an obligation: follow a direction, use a cycle path or a footpath. On a worksite they guide traffic around an obstacle or towards a temporary passage.

Do you need a permit?

Anyone who puts up a traffic sign on the public road for works needs the consent of the road authority: through the occupation permit or through a signage permit with a signage plan. Without that consent you may not put up the sign.
