F.A.Q.
Frequently asked questions
The questions contractors and fellow construction companies ask us most often about renting construction site signage, delivery and installation, payment and permits, with a short, concrete answer.

Huren
What equipment can I rent from you?
With us you can rent, among other things:
- Sets of parking signs (E1, E3, E9c) to keep parking spaces free for your site
- Traffic signs and warning signs
- Arrows with flashing lights (D1c/D1d) for diversions
- Site fences, crowd control barriers and barricades for a safe site zone
All equipment complies with the Flemish Standaardbestek 250. View the range and simulate your rate on the rental page.
Can I also buy construction site signage instead of renting?
No, we work exclusively with rental. That way you only pay for the period you actually need the signage on site, and you're not left with storage or maintenance afterwards. See the full range on the rental page.
How much does renting construction site signage start at?
Rental starts from about €40 incl. VAT, depending on the equipment, the rental period and whether you want delivery, installation and collection. You can work out the exact rate yourself in a few clicks via the rate simulator.
Does your equipment meet the applicable standards?
Yes. All our equipment (signs, beacons and lights) meets the strictest Belgian standards for retroreflection (type I, II or III) and stability. We work exclusively with quality equipment that is also produced in Belgium.
Our tip: be careful with parking signs or other traffic signs from second-hand sites. They often fail to meet the legal requirements, lack the correct reflective film, or are a type of sign that isn't valid for your occupancy. If the signs aren't compliant, they are invalid during an inspection and the police will not tow away illegally parked vehicles. Your occupancy is then delayed, you risk a municipal administrative fine and there's a chance the occupancy cannot go ahead that day.
Why can't I click certain dates in the webshop?
To safeguard our quality and a tight planning, we temporarily close the webshop during busy periods and holidays. No collections or deliveries are possible on those dates. Normally you can place an order up to a maximum of 7 working days in advance, so that our warehouse and administrative team have time to process your order and get it ready.
We don't accept last-minute bookings once the planning has reached its maximum capacity. So book well in advance to avoid disappointment.
I already have my permit and only want to rent traffic signs from you. How quickly can that be arranged?
You place your order in our webshop at least 7 working days before the collection or delivery date, unless that date is no longer clickable, because then the planning is full.
Because our planning is continuously full, we apply a strict “first come, first served” principle. So confirm your booking as soon as your own planning is settled. Bear in mind:
- Date not clickable? Then our capacity for that day is fully used and we can no longer accept additional deliveries or collections.
- Complex requests based on a specific signage plan (so not a standard parking set) take more assembly and preparation time: allow for a longer processing time.
- During peak periods we cannot accept last-minute requests.
Can I still cancel my order?
You can, under the following conditions:
- Cancelling up to 5 working days in advance: in writing by email only. Your cancellation is only final once you have received written confirmation from us.
- If you cancel within 5 working days before the scheduled delivery or collection, a refund is no longer possible. In consultation we will move the booking to a later date free of charge.
- For every cancellation we charge a fixed administrative fee of €45 excl. VAT for adjusting the planning, keeping the equipment in stock and issuing the credit note.
- If the goods have already been delivered or collected, there is no refund if you return them or have them collected earlier.
- Work we have already delivered (a permit application, city taxes we advanced, a drawn-up signage plan) is charged in full. That cannot be cancelled free of charge.
I accidentally rented the wrong type of traffic sign. Can I still have it swapped?
No worries, we're happy to look at what's still possible. Send us an email straight away with your order number and the correct type of sign. For amending your order and the planning we charge an administrative fee of €25 excl. VAT. If the signs are already with you, we'll schedule a swap at the applicable transport rates. If you have already collected them or are collecting within 24 hours, a change fee also applies to swap the signs at the collection point. That way you're still safe and legally compliant.
What happens if (part of) the rented equipment is damaged or stolen?
As soon as the equipment has been installed on site or collected by you, responsibility for its safekeeping lies with you as the renter. In the event of damage or theft, the following procedure applies:
- Duty to report: report any damage or loss immediately (within 24 hours) in writing by email, so that we can repair or replace the signage quickly.
- Theft: file a report with the local police and send us a copy of the police report for the administrative handling.
- Invoicing: lost, stolen or irreparably damaged equipment is charged at replacement value (as-new value), in line with our sales rates. For repairable damage we invoice the repair costs.
- Call-out: if we have to come on site to reposition the signage in line with the permit or to deliver new signs, we charge a call-out fee based on the return distance from our depot in Drongen.
Theft protection and deposit. When you rent E1/E3/E9c no-parking signs, you select theft protection in the webshop: a complete set or individual signs, up to and including two signs and a rental period of up to one month. If they are then damaged or stolen, the costs are not for your account. In all other cases we charge the material in full, including administrative costs. A set counts as two signs: up to and including two signs we ask no deposit and you can take the protection, from the third sign the deposit applies, just as it does for material other than parking signs or a rental longer than one month.
Our tip: store traffic signs safely while you're not using them, in your van or behind a fence. Don't leave equipment out on the street unnecessarily. Also check whether your public liability insurance or contractor's all-risks policy covers rented equipment. At theft-prone locations we recommend securing the signs further, for example with a chain to a fixed element.
Levering
Do you deliver and install the signage on site?
We can. Alongside rental we offer delivery, installation and collection: we bring the signage to the site, install it correctly in line with the permit and collect it again afterwards. That way your crew can carry straight on. Deliveries and collections take place Monday to Friday. The transport rate depends on the distance to your site and is calculated automatically with your order.
How far in advance is the signage installed?
- A standard no-parking zone on the parking lane only: we usually install the no-parking signs 3 to 4 days before the start date, so that local residents have plenty of notice. In most cities and municipalities the signs have to be in place at least 48 hours in advance. We deliberately allow extra margin to avoid discussions.
- Occupancy with several traffic signs according to a signage plan: we deliver the construction site signage out of service, at the side of the road, 1 working day before the works start. Collection takes place 1 working day after the works.
- No-parking zone and construction site signage together: the no-parking signs are installed a few days in advance and the remaining signage comes along at the same time (out of service, at the side of the road). That way we avoid extra trips and you save on transport costs.
When do the installation and collection rounds take place?
Our teams are on the road Monday to Friday, between 6 a.m. and around 2 p.m. During very busy periods we also deliver and collect at night. For organisational reasons we cannot give you an exact time in advance.
You don't have to be present for the delivery or collection. We deliver the equipment at your door; no-parking signs, however, are positioned correctly straight away in line with the permit.
Rented equipment is always collected 1 working day after the rental ends. In practice: if you rent up to and including Friday, we come by on the next working day, so Monday. You can put the equipment outside that morning from 6 a.m.
Can I pick up and return no-parking signs and traffic signs myself?
Certainly. At our contactless pick-up point PICK UP & GO next to the warehouse in Drongen you pick up and return the equipment yourself, 6/7 and outside office hours too. You can read exactly how that works under how it works. Professional customers usually have everything delivered and collected on site; if a site manager prefers to pick things up in person, just ask about the options by email.
Bear the following in mind:
- Transport: provide a suitable vehicle or trailer. Traffic signs and bases are heavy and bulky.
- Responsibility: if you pick up yourself, you are responsible for correct installation. Check your permit so you rent the right type of signs. If we have to change an order last minute when the signs were already prepared, we charge an admin service fee of €35 excl. VAT.
- Book in time: pick-ups you request on the same day cannot be handled, because our teams are fully booked.
What is the address for picking up and returning rental equipment?
Our warehouse and contactless pick-up point are at Booiebos 6D3, 9031 Drongen, outside the Ghent low-emission zone and easy to reach via the R4. The gate and the pick-up point are clearly marked with stickers, so you can’t miss them. Picking up and returning is possible Monday to Saturday between 08:00 and 20:00.
Please note: dropping by without a booking is not possible. Rental equipment is only made ready after an online booking. Our warehouse is not freely accessible to walk-ins: during the day our teams are out on the road for installations and collections. You’ll find all contact details on the contact page.
Betaling
How can I pay?
You can pay securely and online with the most common methods:
- Bancontact, KBC/CBC and Payconiq
- Visa and Mastercard
- PayPal and Klarna
Payment is processed securely via our payment partner Mollie.
Do you work with companies and contractors?
Definitely. The vast majority of our customers are contractors, renovation and construction companies. For recurring collaborations and larger volumes we’re happy to look at the best B2B terms. Read how that works on the page for professionals.
Do you also arrange the necessary fees and taxes?
For business customers we handle the entire administrative application with the authorities. The municipal fee (the tax for using the public domain) is usually invoiced to you directly by the municipality. Our own service fee for preparing and submitting the file is clearly stated on the quote.
- For professionals: if the city tax comes to us, we advance it. We keep the payment receipts and pass them on in the invoice, together with an administration fee for the handling.
- For private customers: you only rent the equipment from us, and you apply for the permit yourself at your municipality. If it charges a fee, you pay that directly to the municipality. We do not advance city or municipal taxes for private customers.
Incidentally, not every city or municipality charges a tax: that differs per municipality and per type of occupancy. Check your municipality’s financial regulations to find out whether a fee applies.
Vergunning
Can you apply for the public domain occupancy permit on my behalf?
For business customers: absolutely. It’s our speciality. We take the entire administrative process off your hands and submit the application to the relevant municipality, police zone or the Agentschap Wegen en Verkeer (AWV), via EagleBE, Spotbooking or the city’s own occupancy form. We know exactly which documents and signage plans are needed for quick approval, and what is and isn’t accepted. Our administrative team follows up every submitted file daily.
- For professionals: request your rate by email. The price depends on the type of occupancy and on the project.
- For private customers: no. You rent the parking signs from us (with delivery, installation and collection as an option) and you apply for the temporary no-parking permit yourself at your municipality. On our permit pages you can see, per municipality, which counter handles it and how many days in advance you have to apply.
You’ll find the procedure per municipality on our permit pages.
What is the average processing time for a permit application?
That depends heavily on the nature of the occupancy and on the city or municipality. Broadly speaking, we use these guidelines:
- Standard occupancy, so exclusively in the regular parking lane: on average 10 to 14 working days. In some municipalities a fast-track procedure of 3 to 5 days is possible at an extra cost.
- Complex works, for example a site zone partly on the pavement, cycle path or carriageway: count on at least 30 working days. Extra consultation with the local police, the mobility department and the utility companies is often needed here.
- Large projects with diversions or occupancies on regional roads (AWV): start the application at least 45 working days in advance.
Our tip: don’t wait until the last minute. As soon as your planning is more or less fixed, we can start the application. We know the fast and the slower municipalities and advise you straight away on what is feasible, which is why many firms call us first, before they even set a date.
What does a public domain occupancy permit cost?
The fee differs per municipality and depends on the surface area and the duration of the occupancy. On our municipality pages you’ll find the right application platform for each municipality and the conditions that apply there. Our own service fee for the file is always listed separately on the quote.
Is a signage and diversion plan mandatory for every construction site?
Not for occupancies limited to the regular parking lane: a van in a parking lane doesn’t need one. As soon as you occupy part of the pavement, the cycle path or the carriageway, it is mandatory. The legislation divides construction sites into categories 1 to 6, based on the disruption and the location:
- Small occupancies, for example on the pavement: a small signage plan with all dimensions and the required signage on it is usually enough.
- Large occupancies on the carriageway or cycle path, or a full closure: an official signage plan is mandatory here. That plan must comply with the Ministerial Decree and with the guidelines of the local police or the Agentschap Wegen en Verkeer.
- Diversions: as soon as traffic has to take an alternative route, a diversion plan is essential for approval. Sometimes pedestrians and cyclists have to be diverted as well, or you have to provide a safe corridor.
Even when it isn’t strictly mandatory, a professional plan gives you legal certainty. In the event of an accident within the site zone, the signage plan is the first document the insurer or the police ask for. As the end client, you do remain responsible yourself for making sure the signage stays in place in line with that plan during the works.
Can I draw up a signage and diversion plan myself, or is it better to outsource it?
Drawing up a correct plan is more than putting a few lines on a map: it partly determines how quickly your permit is approved and how safely the work is carried out. If you outsource it to us, you get:
- Smoother approval: we know the specific requirements of cities, municipalities and the AWV. Our plans meet all legal standards, including the Ministerial Decree on the signage of works.
- Legal cover: if an incident happens in your site zone, the insurer looks at the signage plan first. With a plan from us you demonstrate that the set-up was professional and compliant with the law.
- Focus on traffic flow: we design plans that are safe and that limit disruption for traffic and the neighbourhood. That earns more support from the local authority and results in fewer complaints.
- Efficient execution: our plans double as the working script for our own installation teams, so theory and practice line up seamlessly.
In short: you save valuable time on administration and avoid expensive delays caused by rejected applications or unsafe situations.
What should I do if there are cars parked between the parking signs on the day of the occupancy?
Annoying, and it can disrupt your planning. To be able to take action, the signage must have been installed correctly in line with the permit and in good time (depending on the municipality, usually 48 or 72 hours in advance). Follow these steps:
- Contact the local police yourself: they are the only ones authorised to record the facts and, if necessary, call in a tow truck.
- Keep your proof of installation to hand: the police will ask when the signs were installed. If we handle the installation, you receive, provided you tick that option in the online shop, a digital proof of installation with photos and a time stamp. That serves as evidence that the cars are parked there unlawfully.
- List of number plates: if you installed the signs yourself, it is crucial that you noted at the time of installation which vehicles were already there. You pass those number plates on to the police via the appropriate forms.
Our extra service: if you opt for the fully managed service, we record all vehicles present as soon as we install and provide you with a detailed overview. That puts you in a strong position when the police turn up and, if necessary, vehicles can be towed straight away. You do still need to call the local police yourself on the day of the occupancy.

When can I reach you by phone and by email?
Werfsignalisatie.be focuses specifically on the professional market. To guarantee business customers the fastest service and technical expertise, we work as follows:
- Email: the fastest way to submit a request or send us plans is info@werfsignalisatie.be. We answer professional requests within 2 working days.
- Project phone line (B2B): available Monday to Friday between 09:00 and 12:00, exclusively for active construction sites and requests from business customers. Regular customers also have their own point of contact.
Please note: we do not offer phone support to private customers. As a private customer you rent the equipment from us (parking signs for a house move, a delivery or a container) and you book that exclusively through the online shop. There you check availability and the rate yourself, and you automatically receive a confirmation with invoice in your mailbox. As a private customer you apply for the permit itself at your municipality: the full package with signage plan, number plates and permit application is something we only handle for companies. That way we keep our lines free for the complex logistical planning of professional construction sites. Can’t find the answer to your question here? Send us an email. We’ll call you back within 2 to 3 working days.
Which region do you operate in?
Our depot is in Drongen near Ghent and we operate throughout Flanders and Brussels. For permit applications we work across the whole of Belgium in practice; the application platform does differ from one municipality to the next. Check your municipality on the permit page.
