What does the M3 sign mean?
The M3 panel means the restriction above does not apply to cyclists or to riders of class A two-wheeled mopeds. It therefore goes one step further than the M2 panel, which only lets cyclists through.
Additional panels: what you need to know
Additional panels hang below another traffic sign and complete, specify or limit it (Highway Code, art. 65.2). The M panels, with black lettering on white, make an exception for cyclists or moped riders.
Do you need a permit?
An additional panel always hangs below another traffic sign and so follows the same consent as that sign: the occupation or signage permit for your worksite.
