What does the M2 sign mean?
The M2 panel hangs below a sign such as C3 or C1 and means the restriction does not apply to cyclists. At roadworks it lets cyclists through a closed street where a safe passage remains for them.
Additional panels: what you need to know
Additional panels hang below another traffic sign and complete, specify or limit it (Highway Code, art. 65.2). The M panels, with black lettering on white, make an exception for cyclists or moped riders.
Do you need a permit?
An additional panel always hangs below another traffic sign and so follows the same consent as that sign: the occupation or signage permit for your worksite.
