E1, E3 and E9c: which parking sign do you need for your construction site or move?
For a temporary no-parking zone at a construction site or a move, you usually use E1 (no parking) or E3 (no parking and no stopping), each time with supplementary panels for the zone and the period. E9c, on the other hand, reserves a space for light goods vehicles. Exactly which sign you need is stated in your public domain occupancy permit.

The parking signs in the E series look alike, but the difference determines whether someone may still stop briefly to load or has to stay away entirely. Below we list the three signs you need most often for a construction site or a move.
E1: no parking
The E1 sign prohibits parking but still allows brief stopping: letting passengers get in and out or quickly loading and unloading is permitted. You use this sign when the space has to stay clear but a short stop is not a problem.
E3: no parking and no stopping
The E3 sign is stricter: here your vehicle may not even stop briefly. You use this sign when the zone has to remain completely clear, for example for a crane, a container or a furniture lift that needs the full space.
E9c and the zonal signs
The E9 series does allow parking, but for a specific group. E9c means parking for light goods vehicles only, useful when you want to guarantee a space for a van or light goods vehicle. These signs are also combined with supplementary panels.
Supplementary panels: zone and period
A parking sign only works properly with the right supplementary panels. Arrows (start, middle, end of the zone) mark out the length over which the ban applies, and a time indication states the start and end date. The signs usually have to be in place a few days in advance so that parked cars can be moved away in time.

- Who is responsible for putting up the construction site signage?Whoever carries out the works is responsible for ensuring that road signs are correctly installed, even if you put them up yourself. If they are installed incorrectly or do not meet the legal requirements, the police will not tow away illegally parked vehicles and may shut down the construction site.
- Putting up your own parking signs: a summary of the rulesIf you are putting up the parking signs yourself, you must position them exactly as specified in your permit: one set per 25 metres, with the start sign showing the arrow pointing upwards, the end sign showing the arrow pointing downwards, and the dates and times on the lower panels. Take photographs whilst performing the installation and send these, together with the number plates of the cars already parked there, to the police and the municipality.
- Applying for a public domain occupancy permit: how it worksFor works or a container on the pavement, parking strip or roadway you need a public domain occupancy permit. You apply for it per municipality via EagleBE, Spotbooking or the city's occupancy form. Expect a processing time of a few working days to two weeks. We take the entire application off your hands.
