How long does a public domain occupancy permit take?
Count on a few working days to around two weeks of processing time for a public domain occupancy permit, depending on the municipality, the size of your occupancy and whether a signage plan is needed. So submit your application well in advance. You will find the indicative time frame per municipality on our municipality pages.

The question we get most often: how far in advance do I have to submit my application? There is no single figure that is right everywhere, but with the guidelines below you are on the safe side.
What does the processing time depend on?
- The municipality: every municipality applies its own indicative time frame, from a few working days to two weeks.
- The size of the occupancy: a container on the pavement goes faster than a full traffic lane.
- Whether a signage plan is needed, and whether a regional road (AWV) is involved.
Apply well in advance
Preferably submit your application at least two weeks before the start date of your construction site. That leaves margin if the municipality asks for extra information or if a regional road is involved. Applying too late is the most common reason for postponement.
Processing time per municipality
The specific indicative time frame, the application platform and the cost are listed per municipality on our municipality pages. That way you know exactly where you stand in your municipality beforehand.

- Putting up your own parking signs: a summary of the rulesIf you are putting up the parking signs yourself, you must position them exactly as specified in your permit: one set per 25 metres, with the start sign showing the arrow pointing upwards, the end sign showing the arrow pointing downwards, and the dates and times on the lower panels. Take photographs whilst performing the installation and send these, together with the number plates of the cars already parked there, to the police and the municipality.
